This week is Vet Tech Appreciation week! Let’s give them some love! Without them, it would have taken AGES to figure out Brodie’s allergies.

Vet Techs are honestly the back bone of vet care the same way nurses are for health care. They are there for every appointment, every question, and every over protective Pet Mom. Without them, I know we’d honestly have so much more stress going on in our lives. I know I would as a Dog Mom…who is…insane about her pup.

We’re lucky enough to know and be friends with one of the best vet techs out there (in our extremely biased opinion)! Pam has been absolutely amazing! No joke! She gets an almost (twice a day) daily poop update…yup, a poop-date. When we met her as our upstairs neighbor, who knew we’d still be friends all these years later and she’d be helping us through the craziness that has become Brodie’s health.
If you’ve read our “About Us” section, you know that we’ve recently found out the Brodie is basically allergic to the world. Well, maybe not everything, but SOOOO many things. Pam has been there for every question and poop-date!’
Pam’s been there since for us even before Brodie! Most of you may not know, but Brodie has 2 older fur-sisters! Two guinea pigs, Charlie and Leslie. Not only was Pam there to help with Charlie’s eye infection, but she also helped us after Leslie had to have emergency surgery…needless to say, she was a godsend to have living above us. She taught us how to handle their nail trims too, because believe me…they aren’t easy!

Okay, now back to all the Brodie drama of his poop. I’m still not joking, from the time we adopted Brodie, he almost NEVER had solid poop. At first we thought maybe it was the stress of a new family, then we thought it was just that one type of food or treat. I think we changed his food and treats 3 or 4 times. We just couldn’t figure out what the exact issue was.
Then in September, he developed a rash, that then turned into 2 hot spots and an infection. That’s what started us on the journey to allergy testing. We were at the end of the line of trail and error and he was breaking out with bumps way too often. Well, after we got the results back, it turned out he was allergic to some of the most common ingredients in food, dust, and his favorite place-the great out doors. Since changing his food, more frequent baths, and an insane amount of dusting, most of our issues seem to have resolved!
If we didn’t have Pam helping us with all of this, answering questions and dealing with poop updates in the morning and at night, we honestly don’t know what we’d have done!

Now all of our boys can happily play together in all their allergy bliss! (Both her pups have allergies too!) These guys are 2 of Brodie’s BEST friends in the whole world. They are Diego (left) and Rey (middle) and are so incredibly sweet! They all love to play in the yard, but most of all, they love to run in circles around the table where the humans are sitting. Brodie doesn’t quite get the game (he’s only 10% shepherd to their 50% and 100% respectively), but Diego and Rey are teaching him the ropes!
So what’s the moral of my story for today? Thank a Vet Tech! Someone who’s helped you out with your fur-babies. Without them, where would we be?
