What type of training do you do?
I focus on rewards based training methods. We will focus on reward your dog for the behaviors we like and redirect the behavior we don’t by teaching them what we would like instead. I primarily work on basic obedience, new dogs in the home, puppy training, leash skills, and 1st time dog owner skills.
How often do we train?
Frequency of training sessions is a personal preference. Most clients work with me weekly, while others train bi-monthly or monthly. Each training session is approximately 1-1.5 hours. You’ll see the best results if you continue training between sessions. Building it into your routine can help with this! Training should be short (3-5 minutes) and should be done about 3-5 times per day. Using meal times can help!
What does a training session look like?
Training sessions will typically cover 2-3 basic obedience cues and 1-2 trouble shooting ideas for behaviors like mouthing and potty problems. All training is customized to your individual goals and what works for your pup. For each cue we learn, I will demonstrate a few times and then you will take over while I coach!
What type of tools do you use?
For rewards, we primarily use treats to teach new behaviors. We also use toys and real life experiences as rewards, depending on the dog. A treat pouch is also recommended for easy rewards. Optional tools include clickers, long lines, and muzzles! You can find all of our favorites here!
Is a consultation required? Is there a fee?
Consultations are required prior to starting any training. Consultations are done via Google Meet are approximately 1 hour. In person consultations are available upon request for a $25 fee. The fee is discounted off any packages booked after the consultation. During the consultation, we will discuss training goals in detail, what your training plan would look like, and any recommended tools, such as harnesses.
Is there an expiration on training packages?
Training packages are valid for the lifetime of the pup. That means if you purchase a 4 session package and choose to use only 2, you can save the last 2 for when new behaviors or if things change in your life. This is beneficial for puppies and rescues who may change over time due to adolescences or feeling safe in your home.
