Small, but Mighty Dog Park

For Brodie’s Gotcha Day celebration adventure, we went out and found a new (to us) dog park!

After a slight fail visiting another dog park that turned out to be private, we ended up discovering Pompton Lakes Dog Park! It’s a smaller dog park within Hershfield Park in Pompton Lakes, NJ. There’s an adjustable jump, a lifted tunnel, and some rings for dogs to jump through. It’s like a little puppy playground! Not full on agility, but still fun!

There is only one area of the park, so it’s for dogs of all sizes, rather than the typical split of big and small dog sides. Brodie is GREAT with small dogs, so it didn’t worry me too much to be around the small dogs, but for others, be warned, it’s a mixed bag of interesting to have the dogs of all sizes…

But Brodie had his frisbee, so all was good in his book! We all know at this point that if Brodie has a frisbee in his mouth, he is one HAPPY boy. He ran all over the park to the humans and other dogs to show off his frisbee, almost never dropping it! He even talked through it! Which sounded like growling, but was so cute and hilarious-mostly because he was having a whole conversation with himself!

I mean, look at this happy boy with his frisbee!

I dare you to find a toy that makes your dog as happy as a frisbee makes Brodie! It will bring SO much joy into your life!

Something I’ve started to notice is that almost every dog park (not all, but so many) have fire hydrants inside them! It just goes to show that dogs really do love to pee on them! I know, too much information, but it’s so true! They just love them!

When we needed a break from the group, we did some agility training with Brodie to get some energy out! He didn’t do great…but did listen to all of our cues!

But then it was back playing with his new friends! He was extremely well behaved, listened to 90% of his cues, knew how to act, and even showed off his frisbee and Gotcha Day bandana! We got his bandana on Etsy special for the day!

We were so proud of him all day!

Overall, we enjoyed our time at Pompton Lakes Dog Park! I’m not sure we will be back because it is a mixed size dog park, but definitely worth checking out if you don’t mind that or if you go at an off time!

Let us know your pros and cons of dog parks and if you would go to one that doesn’t separate big and small dogs in the comments!
