This weekend we found an awesome dog park with agility equipment! And we had it all to ourselves!

We were excited to try another dog park! Especially one that has agility equipment for the pups!

We adventured to Roxbury Dog Park this weekend! We had a great time! We went on a Sunday in the middle of the day and had the park to ourselves. There is a double gate to get in, not the most secure ones, but it kept Brodie in when we had to run to the car. There was also some agility equipment there! Which was so much fun!
We’ve been working on different types of agility with Brodie to help with his training and our connection with him! Our goal is to take agility classes with him at some point, but first we are going to work on some basics with our new trainer. Brodie had a blast learning and working with Dan on the equipment-although, we couldn’t get him to do the last jump…no matter HOW many times we tried!

He had a blast jumping up on the tunnel and bridge. I mean his frisbee WAS up there and how could his frisbee be up there and not him! (If you haven’t figured it out, he may love frisbees more than he loves us…) Because we had the park to ourselves, we were able to have some family time!
Eventually, he finally braved the tunnel! (There may have been some treats and a frisbee involved, but it eventually happened!) By the time we were getting ready to leave, he was running though it on his own without anything enticing him! Needless to say, we were so proud of him!

The tire was the ONE thing he didn’t conquer. He was a little scared of jumping through it. The farthest he got was sticking his head through. No matter how many treats or times we tossed the frisbee through it, he was smart enough to know he would still get them by just going around the tire! It was the highest jump all over again!
BUT I think Brodie’s FAVORITE part of going to the dog park-any dog park is getting to play and walk around with his frisbee!

Honestly, like half of my pictures of Brodie have a frisbee in them…I’m not even joking about how much he loves them.
As long as we bring a frisbee with us, Brodie is so well behaved and happy to be anywhere! We love bringing them to dog parks, especially more crowded ones, so that if we need to get his attention, we know we will be able to!
Some dog parks we avoid. And that debate we’ve talked about before-dog parks or no dog parks-is always ringing in my head. We recently went back to a different dog park and were reminded why we sometimes don’t like them. An overly-not aggressive-but persistent dog with little manners was a bit too much for Brodie’s friend and a bit for Brodie too. We ended up leaving, against Brodie’s wishes. Eh, it’s reasons why we’ve been liking the quieter dog parks!

We will definitely be back to Roxbury Dog Park to work on more agility and confidence building with Brodie! It was a great place for that!

So where do you stand on the Dog Park debate? Every day I go back and forth with it. I don’t know if I’ll ever make up my mind about them, but I know that we will always set Brodie up for success, not failure when we bring him places.
As of now, I think I am standing with quiet dog parks, going at off times, or just a few dogs in a park. We’ll be staying away from crowded ones for a while.
Let us know what you think about them in the comments!
