Every year, the weekend of Thanksgiving is a time to shop-either for yourself or others. This year, think about giving!
Most of you know about Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, but many overlook Giving Tuesday! Giving Tuesday is all about giving back to your community or your favorite non-profit during the holiday season.
This year, I focused on all of my favorite animal shelters and rescues (as I have done in the past, but this year, I tried to donate more than spend on myself-or Brodie-over the weekend!) These shelters and rescues typically rely on donations to keep themselves running, so donations during the holiday season are always extra special!
Here’s some of our favorite shelters and rescues in the North Jersey area! Click on each logo to go to their Giving Tuesday or Donation page!
St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center is where we adopted Brodie! It’s extra special to us because of that! They are an amazing rescue located in Madison, NJ that has dogs, cats, and small animals like guinea pigs and bunnies!
Eleventh Hour Rescue is a one of the more known rescues in the Morris/Sussex County area of NJ! It’s also one of my personal favorites! I’ve been donating to EHR for a few years now and if we hadn’t found the most perfect dog ever (in an extremely biased opinion) at a different rescue, then we most likely would have adopted from Eleventh Hour!
O.S.C.A.R. -AKA One Step Closer Animal Rescue is another favorite of ours! Our best friend’s dad got his pup from O.S.C.A.R. and is another rescue we applied to when we were looking! They are located in Sparta, NJ! We loved the application process with them and definitely recommend them!
Randolph Regional Animal Shelter another shelter that we love. They hosted a 5k a few years ago when my husband first got into running and it was our introduction to the animal rescue community! Since they are a shelter, they are also more affordable in terms of adoptions fees!
There are also some other rescues and organizations that we haven’t been to personally, but they work with a breed that is special to us-Pitbulls (or pitbull type dogs)!
Both of these are still in New Jersey (so local-ish) to us, but there are a ton of similar organizations and rescues all over the country!
Jersey Pits Rescue is a rescue I found through friends and Instagram. They are an AMAZING rescue that focuses on saving Pitties! They are located in Jersey City, NJ and are a foster based rescue. If you have the ability to foster, go apply and help them out! They are HIGH on our list for future dogs!
I also found the Pittie Project on Instagram and fell in love with their mission. Their whole goal is to spay and neuter pitbulls and pitbull type dogs with the end result of less bully breeds ending up in shelters. They spay and neuter through the help of donors and donations, so every penny helps!
“Be part of the solution”
So whether you are can help support one of these amazing organizations/rescues or you donate to one of your favorites near you, I hope you take some time (and some money) and share the love of the holidays with the animals! Because that’s who this is really all about
