New Year’s Ruff-olutions

Even our dogs can have a New Years resolution! Goals they (okay us) have for them to accomplish in the new year. So lets talk about them!

Now I think most of us can guess that Brodie’s #1 personal goal is to play with his frisbee as much as humanly (doggily?) possible. To show it off, carry it all over, and just be one with any one of his now 5ish frisbees. (We now have at least one in each car, one outside, one on the boat, and I think there may be a few more scattered around…)

There’s a healthy guess that he would also like to get out and play more this year. Not that he didn’t get an almost weekly trip to the dog park or a doggy play date, but you know, for him, that may not have been enough. He’s such a funny and excited pup whenever he gets to play and I think he would love to have more play time!

But we as their dedicated humans have goals for them too for the new year!

My #1 goal for Brodie for 2022 is to work on his reactivity and increase his training goals! We want to help him get over his hatred/fear/weirdness with hats and his reaction towards the people wearing them. We also want to address his leash reactivity when we see dogs on our walks. He completely loses all manners when he sees ones, pulls, whines, barks, goes cray-cray until I can redirect his focus back onto me. Which can be A LOT. I’m interested to see how we do with this as 2022 continues and to see where we are on New Years next year!

Increasing training as a big resolution for 2022 isn’t just a resolution for Brodie, but also as a commitment for myself and Dan. Putting the extra time in to work on certain things, making those connections with Brodie, and building our relationship will hopefully be a game changer for him!

Resolutions are only as good as the intentions behind them. It’s hard to keep it going throughout the year, but so so rewarding if/when you do!

Those eyes though!

So what are your resolutions for 2022? What are your Ruff-olutions for your pup? Do you think your pup would have any?

  1. If you have tips on refocusing when other dogs are seen I’d love to hear~ Zabella turns into Cujo when she sees other dogs not sure if she wants to play or attack~
